Taken over two and a half years along the course of the River Thames, Tom Farmer's images offer a small glimpse of how the river is inextricably linked to the national psyche, not just by its proximity to the capital but also through its collective history. Rich in culture and heritage, the river has been the scene of many a spectacle from Royal tradition to industrial innovation. Yet it remains a wholly communal river, an inspiration to artists and musicians, a river of leisure and sport, and a place many call home. These images are a meditation on a collective connection to the Thames and they reflect the diversity of community and tradition found along the route of the river.

In the lead up to his exhibition at the Embassy Tea Gallery, London in September, Thames: Dark River, Still Shining will be shown in various locations along the Thames from Oxford to Walton-on-Thames. The dates and locations are as follows:

The Isis Farmhouse, Oxford - 21st Aug - 6-9pm

The Old Anchor, Abingdon - 22nd Aug - 6-9pm

The Boathouse, Wallingford - 23rd Aug - 6-9pm

Mapledurham Lock, nr Reading - 24th Aug - 10-5pm (Weather Dependent)

River and Rowing Museum, Henley-on-Thames - 25th Aug - 11-4pm

Boulters Lock, Nr Maidenhead - 26th Aug - 10-5pm (Weather Dependent)

Firestation Arts Centre, Windsor - 28th Aug - 6-9pm

Riverhouse Arts Centre, Walton-on-Thames - 29th Aug - 6-9pm
