To increase awareness of plastic pollution in oceans around the world The Thames Estuary Partnership & the #OneLess campaign are supporting a creative art programme for young people; Making Meaning of Ocean Pollution, developed by From the Bow Seat and The Whale Company.

Young people aged between 10 and 18 are invited to take part in the 2017 Ocean Awareness Contest to make meaning of ocean pollution.

The day begins with a clean-up of plastic litter on the Thames organised by Thames 21. Students will then view an exhibition of artwork on board the Tower Bridge Moorings to get inspiration and then participate in the Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Student Contest. Teachers, artists, and a film editor will be on hand throughout the day to mentor students in making their own artwork or film with the plastic litter, or participate in a group art project/group film.

In the next 10 years, our ocean could hold one kilogram of plastic for every three kilograms of fish which is why the #OneLess campaign, an initiative of TEP, ZSL and the Marine CoLABoration is encouraging residents, businesses and attractions to help make London single-use plastic water bottle free by 2021.

The Bow Seat organises the Ocean Awareness Student Contest to educate, inspire and engage young people through art and media.

Book your place by Monday 12 September.
