Curator, Leeanne Westwood takes you through some of Valence House Museum’s most fascinating objects to tell the rich and intriguing story of Barking & Dagenham’s maritime history.

Surrounded on three sides by water, Barking and Dagenham has a rich maritime history, from the Short Blue Fleet, the country’s largest fishing fleet during the Victorian period, to the fitting-out of the Orion class Super Dreadnought HMS Thunderer at Dagenham Dock in 1911.

Join Curator Leeanne Westwood for an in-depth look at some of the Museum’s objects that illustrate the borough’s interesting maritime history, including the recently acquired scale model of the Samuel Williams hydrofoil.
