Join expert archaeologist and historian Eliott Wragg afloat, for a talk on the history of boat building and breaking yards along the Thames, from London Bridge up to the Thames Barrier and back again.

Working River is a heritage project documenting the history of London’s Boatyards on the tidal Thames. As part of the project, expert archaeological historian Eliott Wragg will give a talk on the history of boat building and breaking yards along the Thames, from London Bridge up to the Thames Barrier. The talk will cover the fascinating history of wooden boat building in areas of London like Rotherhithe and Deptford, the extraordinary feats of iron shipbuilding associated with yards at the Isle of Dogs and Blackwall, particularly the Thames Ironworks at Bow Creek opposite Trinity Buoy Wharf.

A must-hear tour of this significant industry in the history of London, and the archaeological remains which have been left behind on London’s foreshore.
