The River Roding was the major transport link for the people of Barking and Ilford until as late as the 1960s. For over 200 years the river allowed industries to flourish, including the market gardening and fishing industries of the 18th and 19th centuries and later the factories and storage facilities that dealt with items as diverse as blood products, jute, matches and old cine film stock. This walk will examine the relics of a history lost in the redevelopment of recent years. Meet at Barking Town Quay.
