Bankside's history is more intense than that of the City of London on the other side of the river. A heavy prehistoric presence is followed by the Romans and all periods through to today. it was the red-light district in the Tudor period and on the foreshore, evidence can be discovered of the money pots used in the many theatres found in the area.
