Explore one of London’s great hidden spaces as Iain Chambers’ composition premieres inside the cavernous bascule chambers of Tower Bridge.

The first ever public event to take place in this fascinating space, Bascule Chambers is a new composition for brass and electronics. Performers including musicians from the Docklands Sinfonia, and Mezzo-Soprano Catherine Carter will transform this global landmark into a giant musical instrument.

Using the London Sound Survey's recordings of the iconic bridge being lifted, this work allows us to hear the bridge lifting as music, challenging us to listen to the sounds in a new and exciting way.

Follow Iain's process on his blog, and get a sneak preview of his composition: http://www.iainchambers.com/bascule/

Iain Chambers’ Bascule Chambers is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, by PRS for Music Foundation and the RVW Trust.

Performances will be held on Saturday the 26th and Sunday the 27th of September at 11am, 12.30pm, 2pm, 3.30pm, 5pm and 6.30pm.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The Bascule Chambers are accessed by steep stairs and areas that are considered confined spaces. It is therefore not suitable for those with further accessibility needs. The event itself takes place in the restricted machinery room and Bascule Chamber of Tower Bridge, and specifically the operational areas which house its moving parts and mechanism for raising the Bridge to river traffic.

Ticket holders should therefore be aware of all Terms & Conditions before booking for the event as refunds will not be granted. For more information download the Terms & Conditions here.

*Please be aware that timings of performances are subject to bridge lifts.
