Come and explore the secret world of the London Thames with archaeologist, Dr Fiona Haughey – visible beneath your feet but hidden from view at high water. It is an exciting place where our heritage and environmental regeneration can be found.

The beating heart of London is the River Thames - a large, self-excavating archaeological trench that winds its way across the metropolis exposing over time the history of the area over the past 10,000 years. Archaeological walks along the foreshore at Bankside reveal the layers of history still visible, from the end of the last Ice Age to today.. Bankside has been the home to Roman settlers, boatbuilding and repair yards from the Medieval periods onwards, seen the advent of theatres, the building of bridges and jetties and becoming, once again a major transport route through London. Come and explore the 10,000yrs of history beneath your feet with archaeologist, Dr Fiona Haughey

Please note that this walk is not suitable for those with mobility difficulties as the foreshore is uneven and has areas of mud.
Please wear sturdy suitable footwear such as walking boots
Suitable for those aged 12 and above
