The Thames and Historic Southwark

3, 10, 17 & 24 September: 11.30am - 1pm and 6, 13, 18 & 28 September: 3pm - 4:30pm

Starting from St Paul's Cathedral then trailing across Millennium Bridge, see and hear intriguing tales of historic Southwark, traditionally known as the place where City folk came to unwind. Stroll past the Globe Theatre and hear about the infamous Winchester Geese, then onto Southwark's historic coaching inns, Borough Market, The Golden Hinde and Southwark Cathedral before witnessing stunning views as you cross Tower Bridge to finish at Tower Hill.

City Sites and Tales Along the Thames

3, 10, 17 & 24 September: 6pm - 7.30pm and 6, 13, 18 & 28 September: 11.30am - 1pm

A fact-packed look at the history of the Thames. Find out what London was like centuries ago when Tall Ships lined the river to unload their precious cargo, and learn how the 'Pool of London' was key to sustaining the City's economy. Hear the fascinating story of London Bridge, then dabble in some fishy business at Billingsgate Market.

London's River: The City's Ebb and Flow

A stunning highway lined with iconic architecture tells an intriguing story of the City's past and present. A key ingredient for prosperity and a tool for security, the Thames has been the lifeblood of the City, while also bringing deadly disease. Hear it all on this gripping walking tour.

Discovering London's Ancient Harbours: The Ports of London Before the Great Fire

Sat 5, 19 Sep, 2pm - 5pm

Explore London's maritime history. From your first step through the Roman and Medieval galleries at the Museum of London you will be drawn into the layered past of Londinium. Head along the water’s edge and stand where Roman ships were once found, where fascinating archaeological discoveries were uncovered. Be taken back to Roman times to imagine the many incarnations of the harbour.

The City's Bridges

London is globally recognised for the iconic bridges which stand proudly over the Thames. Take in the City's history with an informative stroll along the water’s edge. Starting from inside All Hallows by the Tower, hear about the bridge that sprouted heads, the elephant that walked across the Thames, a daredevil pilot and a quick-witted bus driver.
