Crossness Pumping Station celebrates the Thames

Crossness Engines Trust

Visit the ‘Cathedral on the Marshes’ for this unique open day, featuring performances from PWOS Musical Theatre and artwork from Francis Payne and paintings and sketches of the river industries and landscapes by Anna Keen.

As well as entry to our Boiler and Beam Engine House, tickets include a vintage Routemaster shuttle bus service from Abbey Wood Station, and a ride on our RANG narrow-gauge railway.

Bexley

Crossness Pumping Station

Step back in time and explore a masterpiece of 19th century design. Built in the 1860s as part of Joseph Bazalgette’s London sewer system, today Crossness is a monument of Victorian ambition and beauty. For the Thames Festival, we are celebrating the river and our heritage with singing from PWOS Musical Theatre throughout the day and an exhibition of Francis Payne’s intricate artwork. Anna Keen will be presenting new paintings and sketches of the river industries and landscapes near the two largest Sewage Works in Europe, both North and South of the River Thames. We will be running a vintage shuttle bus and our narrow-gauge ‘RANG’ railway. The engine will not be in steam.
