From The Mouth of The Thames

A journey from the Thames estuary to the source, this show responds to multiple dimensions of the river in poems and photographs.

From the marshland, mudflats and industry of Essex and Kent, through the metropolis and all the way to its source in rural Gloucestershire, Sam Phipps has tracked the Thames along every accessible step of its 215 mile course. His poems explore ecology, personal history and memory. Clem Routledge's photographs of the river and its hinterland combine to create an immersive Thames experience. "This river is / always the same, / only different, / always different, / only the same".
