This is an art workshop lead collaboratively by textile artist Rachna Garodia and installation artist and activist Camilla Brendon.

The artists will lead a river walk, encouraging the participants to physically interact with the river and river bed gathering items that they find interesting. We will look at environmental issues faced by the Thames and water systems as a whole, with a focus on plastics, to enable a greater understanding of why plastics and other pollutants are damaging for the ecosystem as a whole.

Coming back to the art studio at the Re:Centre there will be an introduction to weaving. Participants will have an opportunity to mindfully weave with their gathered materials along with yarns prepared from recycled fabrics and plastic provided by the artists, (driftwood, plastic pieces, ropes, straws, shells etc). There will be a chance for people to explore materials and techniques in an informal fun atmosphere. Tea and biscuits will be provided along with all materials.

Important

The walk will begin at Re:Centre where the participants will meet at 11am. Wellington boots, litter pickers and other essential equipment will be supplied. All weaving materials will be provided. Please wear appropriate clothing for the weather, including socks.

Accessibility

The river bed walk involves using steps to climbing a small wall and walking on the Thames bed. The workshop will be held on the first floor and there is no lift access.
