Get there by boatThames Barges were once a familiar sight on the River Thames with their rusty red sails and distinctive shape. For centuries they carried vital cargo in and out of London using the ultimate sustainable power source — wind! In this children’s workshop we’ll bring the barges to life with activities including collage making using recycled materials, short talks about the barges and book readings by Jo Samuels, author of the story book “Fernando and the Thames Barge”. Activities will be taking place throughout the day so feel free to drop in anytime and stay as long as you like. The event is suitable for children ages 4+ years and the Thames Sailing Barge Trust will be on hand to answer all your questions! If you’re looking to make it a full day out we can recommend Southern Park and Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Park just around the corner from the Greenwich Yacht Club.
