Anne Krinsky's Tropical Thames, is an installation of large-scale digitally-designed prints on aluminium panels, created specifically for the Crossrail Place Roof Garden. Krinsky's imagery is inspired by Thames architectural structures in southeast London – docks, piers and river walls – that were shaped by centuries of shipping and trade.
Tropical Thames also responds to the Garden's dramatic roof structure (designed by Foster and Partners) and to its plantings, some of which were species that first entered Britain through Thames docks.
Krinsky works across analogue and digital media – painting, printmaking, photography and projection. Visual and historical research underpins much of her recent practice and she has made installations in response to materials in archived collections in the US, the UK and India. Since moving to the UK from Boston in 2012 she has received two Arts Council England Grants for the Arts and an Artists International Development Fund Grant.
The artist lives and works in southeast London – her studio is located on the river, just east of the Thames Barrier. She has been researching and creating work about the tidal Thames and its architectural structures for the last two years. With artist Tom Pearman, Krinsky has created Tide Line Thames, a collaborative installation of light projected imagery for the Thames Tunnel Shaft of the Brunel Museum. Anne Krinsky’s works are in the collections of the British Museum, Boston Public Library, Paintings in Hospitals, England and collector Graham Gund and numerous corporate collections on both sides of the Atlantic.
