Southwark Cathedral stands at the oldest crossing point of the tidal Thames at what was the only entrance to the City of London across the river for many centuries. It is not only a place of worship but also of hospitality, welcoming all. Activities during the Festival include a Prayer Labyrinth and outdoor chess set. Enjoy the two open spaces on both the Market and Riverside of the Cathedral with Pimms, prosecco and barbeque on offer.

Soul Sanctuary Gospel Choir: Live in Southwark Cathedral

Tuesday 1 September, 3.15pm - 4pm

Soul Sanctuary Gospel Choir perform gospel classics and contemporary funky tunes in an intimate gig at Southwark Cathedral taking the Thames as their inspiration.

Totally Thames Festival Organ Recital – The Sacred River

Friday 11 September, 9pm – 10pm

A dimly lit and atmospheric evening organ recital at Southwark Cathedral given by the Cathedral’s Organ Scholar, Alexander Binns to include a commission by the young composer Lloyd Coleman.

Lunchtime Organ Recital

Monday 14 September, 1.10pm - 2pm

Lunchtime Organ Recital at Southwark Cathedral given by Joe Sentence, Organist at St Stephen's, Walbrook, Fellow of the Royal College of Organists.

Orpheus Principals

Tuesday 15 September, 3.15pm – 4pm

The Principal musicians of Orpheus Sinfonia, an exceptional orchestra of talented young musicians, perform a specially chosen programme in Southwark Cathedral's beautiful surroundings, celebrating the themes of water and spirituality.

Georgian Polyphonic Choir - Shvidkatsa

Saturday 19 September , 1pm – 2pm

Popular singing has a highly valued place in Georgian culture. Polyphonic singing, in the Georgian language, is a secular tradition in a country whose language and culture have often been oppressed by invaders. Some of these songs are linked to the cult of the grapevine and many date back to the eighth century.

Sacred Rivers - Early Music from the New World

Saturday 19 September , 5.30pm – 6.30pm

Sacred Harp singing is an acapella community singing tradition from the American South. Pre-dating gospel music, over generations Sacred Harp has transformed into a rare and distinctive treat for the senses. Come and be delighted by this unique and very special form of singing: full voiced, thrilling and moving, sung by singers from the UK, Europe and America.

Lunchtime Organ Recital

Monday 21 September, 1.10pm - 2pm

Lunchtime Organ Recital at Southwark Cathedral, sacred place of worship since 606 AD, given by the Cathedral's Organ Scholar, Alexander Binns.

Lancelot Andrewes Festival 2015

Saturday 26 September, 12 Noon - 4pm

Andrewes was a great man of learning and holiness who lived locally and is buried in Southwark Cathedral. The day includes a Festival Choral Eucharist, special themed tours, a lecture given by The Reverend Dr Nicholas Cranfield and a Festival Choral Evensong to round off the day.
