In 2002 I went to live on the ex-trading fully navigable barge MB ROCK, an old converted British Medway Coaster. The barge was to become my floating home and studio, a domestic and creative site of art practice. The photograph is taken in the 'hold' of the vessel. The hold is the place that once held the cargo and now holds me and is the space that I use to make photographs, video and drawings.
Anne Lydiat
Living on a fully functioning sailing ship one lives with a sense of independence, only a cast rope away from freedom. We inhabit the ship with fluidity: she is first and foremost a vessel, but also a place for art, music and performance and a home for our three children. This photograph reflects our artist family dynamic - there is usually one of us hidden behind the lens...
