The City of London was the site of the world’s busiest port in 1800, previously the scene of the Great Fire in 1666, and the location of King Alfred’s port from c884AD onwards– all within a short walk along the foreshore near Cannon Street station.

Walks start at 9.20am or 10.30am, with a short introduction from Dr. Fiona Haughey followed by a 1hr walk

The City of London is filled with history throughout the ages visible to the eye as you stroll around the square mile. The foreshore provides a different viewpoint of human occupation in the area over the millennia dating from the end of the last Ice Age up to today. People have lived, worked and traded in this area with today’s modern imprint just another step along the way. Come and look at the remains of London’s great trading history dating back over 1400 years as well as finding signs of the way the city has survived against invaders both in recent years as well as in the past. See how, in spite of all the dangers and tragedies thrown at it, London has survived and continues to thrive today.

Please note that this walk is not suitable for those with mobility difficulties as the foreshore is uneven and has areas of mud.
Please wear sturdy suitable footwear such as walking boots
