‘My Story of Water’, is an arts education project being delivered by Five Cowries Arts Education Initiative based in Lagos, bringing together children, young people and teachers from across Nigeria with partners around the world to educate and raise awareness of water pollution crisis affecting our environment, climate and waterways and our need to protect them.
The Five Cowries Arts Education Initiative was inspired by Thames Festival Trust’s “The Story of Water” arts education programme and aims to leverage the arts to offer an inclusive route into education in Nigeria that keeps children engaged and has a positive impact on educational outcomes, such as improved numeracy and literacy as well as transferable skills such as communication, problem solving and creativity.
As part of Totally Thames, an installation of 500 jerry cans, onto which the children have painted their story of water, will be displayed at Oxo Tower Wharf alongside a photo exhibition of the project at City Hall from 3rd – 16th September.
‘My Story of Water’ is being sponsored by Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Zenith Bank, Central Bank of Nigeria, TY Danujma Foundation and MTN Foundation and delivered in partnership with Teach for Nigeria, Montessori Centre International, Lagos State Ministry of Health, Thames Festival Trust (UK), Daraja Designs, Hatch Ideas Worldwide, Jackson Etti & Edu and africapractice.
