Sat 28 Sep, 2pm-4pm, Sun 29 Sep 2pm-4pm (2019)
In the heart of old London two great rivers meet: the familiar Thames and its buried sister the River Fleet. Join us for a storywalk exploring the secret history of the lost river; surfacing the hidden myths of long forgotten Goddesses, Kings and creatures of the watery deeps.
Once upon a time these rivers were worshipped as divinities, and their meeting point was the place where the gods danced. This is a site where myth, history and time intermingle: nymphs and selkies, Vikings and Romans, the Goddess Bride (of bridewell), Isis of the Thames and King Llud of the Mabinogion all walked these shores.
Accessibility
The walk is about 2 miles, along the banks of the Thames and exploring the lower reaches of the buried River Fleet. While we will be stopping regularly to hear and discuss stories we will be on our feet for the full two hours which is more tiring than it sounds, please ensure you are comfortable walking 4 miles and wearing suitable clothing for the weather. If you have any access requirements please contact the event organiser.
